Dr. Norman Borlaug
"Dr. Borlaug developed high-yielding varieties of wheat that took Mexico from near-starvation to self-sufficiency within a few years, introduced his new seed and production technologies in India and Pakistan, and successfully campaigned at the highest levels of government to get policy changes that averted famine in the mid 1960s. Norman Ernest Borlaug was born on March 25, 1914 on a farm close to Cresco, Iowa. According to his nephew Bill Reed, Norman Borlaug used to say that he was "just a C student that took a bunch of classes in order to go to the University of Minnesota."Norman Borlaug was inspired to end the battle against hunger when he saw people that were starving during the Great Depression. In 1942, Borlaug received a Ph.D in plant pathology and genetics.
